Today I have a day off from work. It’s not a holiday, but a bonus perk of working where I do; work long days, get every other Friday off. Pretty sweet.
It’s been months however since my Friday’s off have not been filled with a full day of running about completing errands. Mr. Muse asked me what I was going to do with myself the other day since I had a whole day of nothing ahead of me and I declared:
So what am I going to do with myself? Oh ho! Let me tell you… well…. I’m not sure. I started making a list of things to do and I think I’ve paralyzed myself with all the possibilities to the point where I don’t know what to do first, or second after I write this blog post. And wash dishes, start some laundry, vacuum the carpets, make a loaf of bread from my America’s Test Kitchen How Can It Be Gluten Free cookbook, cut out fabric for some pillows, get in treadmill time, fill bird feeders outside, put a fence around a pine tree to protect it from the livestock, pick up a whole bunch of pine cones for a friend’s craft project and…. Do you see what I mean?
Meanwhile, enjoy this picture of my goat Marilou showing her smarts this morning. She’s the “baby” and instead of taking a jostling from the bigger goats and sheep trying to eat the hay – she approaches it from the top. Smart girl!
Ahh yes the endless to do list and where to begin. Perhaps you should take a lessen from your own “smart girl” baby goat and just start at the top !!! 🙂
LOL I went from the top and proceeded to deviate from the list after that. Of course, I still got things done that had needed doing (like cutting and drying the herbs from the garden). Today is a continuation of yesterday’s list-tackling.
Funnily enough, I was just watching a programme where someone was being taught how to eat oysters when I came across this post, and my current feeling is I’d be pleased if my day was something else. I hope you enjoyed your day anyway
lol I’ve only ever made the mistake of trying oysters in the form of Campbell’s soup Oyster Stew with my sister. We both had two spoonfuls and said, “Yuck”. That was ages ago and I think of it every time I’m at a restaurant that serves oysters in any form. They must be tasty given the number of people who eat, and rave, over them… but I haven’t summoned the courage to try again. That, and the fact that some forms of shellfish “refund” as fast as they are consumed, gives me pause to try any new shellfish away from the safety of home.
As for my day – it was good. There IS a satisfaction to getting a ton of things done!
The list never ends! I think it’s safe to say Marilou and I are two peas in a pod.
LOL Lisa – Marilou was a “bottle baby” and she is always trying to climb into my pocket. She’s a hoot – then again, I think all the goats, and even the sheep (who are headed to the butcher in a few weeks), are hilarious. Dog person? Yes – sort of. Cat person? Yes – sort of. Small Livestock person? Most definitely! I’m hoping that next spring will see a whole PASSEL of goat kids racing around the pasture and that I get to be a human trampoline for them. Tiny hoof-shaped bruises and everything. Joy!
Smart goat you have there 🙂
Over the summer, I ended up with 3 weeks off with very little to do, aside from collect a paycheck & wait for my next project to start. Those three weeks? I burnt myself out . . . seriously, not having “work” as an excuse to put stuff off, I ended up wearing myself thin. Every morning, I’d wake, do dishes & laundry, do whatever yardwork I could get done before it got too hot, attack & declutter a portion of the house, shower, head to the grocery store, make dinner, then it was night.
When I was a mostly-housewife, I did the same thing for the first few weeks, then I got into a rhythm and had my schedule of what I was doing which allowed for more time to work out, write and relax.
I have a confession I have never eaten an oyster. I am not sure if I ever will…
However, your list of things to do made me tired and I hope there was a nap scheduled in that weekend.
lol My Mom usually tells me that my list of things to do wears her out as well. I didn’t get a nap in, but I got some things done. So there’s that.
