12/08/2012 Question of the Day

Which decade had the best music?

This is a horrible question, Dear Readers!  Who picked this question!?  Music just IS… why do I have to pick the best decade?!

Whining over even though I think this is an unanswerable question.  I’m going to say it… The 1970’s.  Yes. Yes, that’s right.  The 1970’s.  Why?

Well… let me tell you.  Yes, there was the rise (and fall) of disco; don’t you dare poo-poo disco, it makes me dance in my chair.  The decade also brought us some fantastic rock and metal from Alice Cooper to Styx.  We had Southern Rock with Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Marshall Tucker Band.

Frank Zappa, Devo, The Cars, Cheap Trick… Stevie Wonder, Linda Ronstadt, Emmy Lou Harris, The Stray Cats…

The 1970’s saw such a wide and varied sound that there was something for everyone and these same groups influence who we listen to today.  The decade saw the popularity of “arena shows” rise and look at what they evolved into with Madonna and J Lo.  Yes, I have to say that the 1970’s remains the best decade for music.

What’s your take?
