03/24/2012 Question of the Day

If you could instantly be an expert in something, what would that be?  Why?

I have thought a bit on this one and it’s actually pretty difficult to decide what I’d want to be an expert in.  I have so many varied interests but read about things all the time that I decide I’d like to know more about.  I have to say that one subject I’d like to be an expert on is self-reliance WITHOUT electricity.  Strange I know considering how much I use electricity, but I think it would be interesting and fun to be able to accomplish most of what I do in a day without electricity.  Human-powered tools, wooden cookstove, hand-pump well.  I think it would be handy to be an expert in all these things.

Immediately I thought of two things but I’m pretty sure the one you would prefer I not mention on your blog! The other being an expert communicator with the ability to speak in public. I hate public speaking.

    • I think I can guess what the unmentioned option is – and if it is what I believe it to be – it’s not unmentionable on my blog 😛 As for being an expert communicator, that would be a great one! I honestly thought about that one too, since we humans spend so much time communicating (and sometimes not communicating enough). BTW – I thought about the first one too, but I already get called a “succubus” by a handful of people, no point adding fuel to that.

Okay, I’ll mention it. Really it is along the same lines. It involves the tongue anyway. My dream would be to be an expert in the art of cunny – linguistics. I mean I’m great and I’m married so I really doesn’t matter. But if I were not married and I was of a mind to believe premarital sex marriage was okay and God didn’t mind… I would traverse the world over using my oral skill.

Being able to live off the grid could be a very important skill. Way to many of our generation have no idea how to live if the power were to go out.

    • Exactly! I’m slowly building my skills… I learned how to tan hides a few years ago and have a stack of rabbit skins in storage. The stuff used for tanning is “modern” though, so I want to learn to tan and preserve hides the “old” way. MUCH more involved. I already know how to shoot bow & arrow (not fancy compounds either… good ol’ recurves), sharpen knives, etc. I also want to learn post and beam construction like what used to be used on the big old barns that lasted for 200 years.
