I admit that I’m a wimp when it comes to the weather – particularly any weather that threatens cold temps, rain, wind, high temps and humidity. Bicycling weather has a narrow window and I like to stick to that window. Last night I was in the clear with nice temps, a light breeze and the bugs weren’t horrible. Mr. Muse suggested the ride, I agreed and donned my padded cycling shorts.
Men – if you harbored any curiosity about what it’d be like to have to use a sanitary napkin – purchase and wear padded cycling shorts. Then wear them every day for 4-8 days. Yeah – it’s like that – sort of.
I got sidetracked. Cycling shorts are far from flattering and once I had mine on, Rod Stewart’s song “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” started up in my head. My brain was mocking me. How dare it! (MAN! That was some awesome hair in that video… and Rod’s pants… leggings?)
I forgot that cycling uses different muscles than walking and I did well for the first half of the 7 miles but the second half I was feeling it. My quads hurt, my alveoli felt like they were popping, I had bugs getting into my hair through my helmet vents. But, there was a great sunset at the river. And I didn’t swallow any bugs. I also didn’t blow a tire like Mr. Muse.
