It’s almost like living in a scene from “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy”

I need a long form and a short form.  Send in the short form, bring the long form to the interview.

Please fill out the application.

Takes these tests.  Request a copy of test results.

Finding a job is a lot of work.

I’ve been told I need to believe in myself because I’m a very desirable employee (not in the sexually harassed way either… well, probably that, too).  I’ve also been told that I shouldn’t be looking for work, that companies should be seeking me out due to my sheer awesomeness tremendous skill set.  One of my Employment Elves went so far as to say that I’d be a highly sought after employee in major markets (Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle) because of what I know AND because of my Midwest Work Ethic.  Damn right!

Oh, wait.  I’m in the Midwest.  SONOFA…!

So, I typed up my Long Form, created my Short Form.  Took advice from a company owner with whom I’m friends (who said they’d write me a letter of recommendation), that I’d do better in a small company than a medium-to-large, and well… there we go.

Funny thing is… I think my current employer, even though I said in writing that I was going to start looking for employment elsewhere, is in complete and utter denial.  Today when I called in to see if I was working next week (so I can schedule interviews), I was told that I’d be getting trained on QuickBooks in December.

December.  That’s… 7 months away!  Ain’t nobody got time for that.

What I do, however, seem to have time for… is working on a resume. And finding a new job.

Thank you! Actually with the help of some more Employment Elves yesterday – my part of the search really was made clearer, so I have a MUCH more positive attitude about it now!

To the current employer I would have to say, “So long and thanks for all the fish”. Book for of the trilogy. Job hunting is a lot like being a writer or artist….perseverance is he key. Dig?

Ha! Sounds like letting them down softly & getting them to let you go is going to be rough! Hope the interviews go well!!
