What is your favorite quote or saying? Why?
I have so many quotes that I really enjoy. Quotes that make me laugh, giggle, think, reflect, ponder, nod, sigh… You get the idea. I really enjoy quotes from Buddha and Mae West (yes, I know… totally contradictory…. maybe).

One of the quotes that struck a chord with me from the moment I first heard it, is from the movie The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End where the character Tia Dalma, aka Calypso, says to Davey Jones, “It is my nature. Would you love me if I was anything but what I am?”. I think, like Calypso, we all have parts of us that are our nature… we squash them down, fight them, but more often than not… these parts that we try to protect others from, come out.
The line made me ponder if I would love DH if he were anything but himself… which of course is all hypothetical, because he is who he is – no more no less. I only know him as himself. I also asked myself, “Would he love me if I was anything but what I am”? We’ll never know. And I believe that’s the point of the question.
My favorite quote is from the movie Shawshank Redemption (one of my favorites). “It comes down to a simple choice; get busy living or get busy dying” . I take that as life is not going to wait for anyone. If I don’t go after what I want, if I don’t use my time wisely then it is the same as just wasting my life waiting for death and not really living.
Oooh! That’s a good one! I had forgotten about that movie quote. Very true. I’m in full agreement – hence my saying “YES!” to so much.
My favourite saying is one of my own…Life has a funny way of working out exactly how it is meant to no matter what we try and do about it. 😀 but if i had to use someone elses it would be shakespeare…’This above all, to thine own self be true’
Also a good quote and true. So far that seems to be the theme with quotes on Facebook comments as well – being who/what you are.
I would have to say that my most favourite is Dennis Hopper as the wigged out photographer in Apocalypse Now. The line “If, man. If is the middle word in LIFE”
He was certainly an interesting character in that movie, but – the line is true and there is so much potential in “If”.
Great post. Great question. I have so many favorites and so many from movies. I honestly don’t know if I can choose just one. I would have to refer you to my quote page and you can pick a favorite of mine of yours if that makes sense.
I always have a hard time picking my favorite quote, too. Usually I pick the one that has the most meaning for me at the present.
Far too many of my favorite quotes come from Monty Python movies- purely for entertainment value, not for any life altering advice. “Dying ain’t much of a living, boy.” from the Outlaw Josey Wales has always been a favorite as well. I’m not deep enough to really know why that struck home.
I have always enjoyed that movie (as an adult) – and it’s true, are you busy living? Or are you busy dying?
