To what extent do you think money can buy you happiness?

I’m not going to be one of those people that says money doesn’t matter, because money DOES matter – to a point – but it’s definitely not everything. I see too many people who use money to try and keep up with the Joneses, and that leaves them disatisfied and anxious. I think it’s more important to be happy with what you have and to want what you have than to try and accumulate more and more stuff under the premise that if you get it, it will make you happy.

Happiness is an attitude; it comes from within, it’s a choice you make. I choose to be happy. Sure, I’m not happy all day, every day, but the majority of the time I choose to lay aside those small things that could ruin my day if I let them and just be happy.

So, can money buy me happiness? No. Money can buy me things that create situations were I am doing things that bring me happiness, such as travel or food for a party with friends. Money, if used this way, creates an environment in which you have happiness because of the experience. Money itself isn’t a happiness bringer unless you’re Scrooge McDuck.

Maybe it can’t buy true happiness, but as David Lee Roth said “it will buy a boat big enough to dock in the slip right next to it”.

  LOL That’s where my theory that it can help create experiences of happiness come into play. Believe me – I’d enjoy a “boat big enough to dock in the slip right next to it”, too.

I never liked the Jones anyway, so screw em. They try to keep up with me. Actually, they don’t. They believe that I sullied the neighbourhood with my “damn hippy art studio”. If I am grateful for what I have today, I will not be filled with self pity over those things I do not have. Now I have the Beatles “Can’t Buy Me Love” rolling through my melon…thanks a ton!

  I shake my fist at the Joneses! Darn them anyway – what’s not to like about a “damn hippy art studio”? Would they rather a biker gang (not to say all biker gangs are bad… some are very nice)? How about a meth lab? I know I’d rather have a “damn hippy art studio” for a neighbor than a meth lab…
